It’s great to have the chance to talk to readers and interact with them in some way, just like my books. I usually start by reading a story and then ask children to pick out where the hidden characters or animals are in the drawings (if there are any). One of my preferences, after reading, is to create a story with children. They won’t start out with nothing as I bring ideas for a new story which the children and I then develop.
Other possibilities for working with children is on different types of characters – a goody or a baddy.
If the school has specific ideas of what they wany then I can work with this too.
I can also talk about where my ideas for stories come from.
I’m happy to do virtual school visits but would expect the school to set this up.
My fees are very reasonable. For local schools in the area, up to 10 miles, I charge £50 per hour. Outside the 10 mile zone the fees are £70 per hour up to 20 miles. Please contact me for events over 20 miles. 50% of the fee is to be paid upfront please.
In special cases I have done free events but would like the school to purchase a set of my books, with an idea in mind, to eventually distribute them to children in the school. These books should be on hand when I arrive.
If any school or organization is interested, please use the form on the contact page. Check out some of the class discussions from my schools visits below!
